Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) is used as a mineral abrasive for dental care products. Thus, the teeth will be cleansed gently and thoroughly.

Water is the foundation of the water phase and solvent for hydrophilic (water-loving) substances.

Glycerin is a natural component of fats and oils, which consist mainly of triglycerides (a combination of glycerin and three fatty acids). The glycerin that Weleda uses is obtained exclusively from plant oils. Glycerin is used as a moisturiser in cosmetic products as it is able to release the water it absorbs. Glycerin also makes oil-in-water emulsions easier to spread and has a smoothing and protecting effect on the skin.

Silica can absorb moisture and improves consistency in emulsions. It can be used in body care products as well as in dental care products.

Peppermint Oil is an essential oil, which is derived from the flowering peppermint herb. Along with other natural essential oils it is used for aromatisation.

The dark red blackthorn fruit contains tannins and bitter substances as well as flavonoids. Blackthorn juice has a tonifying effect and is suitable for the care of sensitive skin.

The mineral-rich sea salt is obtained by slow evaporation of seawater in salt gardens. It increases the viscosity of emulsions and has product-stabilizing properties.

Essential oils are important ingredients of the dark-yellow to reddish coloured myrrha resin. Myrrha extracts are astringent and toning. They are suitable ingredients of dental care products, as well as for the care of tired and pale skin.

The Krameria Triandra Root Extract contains many tannins that have an astringent (tanning) effect, e.g. to the oral mucosa. Therefore, the dark brown root extract is a particularly suitable ingredient for mouth and dental care products.

The extract of chestnut bark is characterized by the tannins it contains and the associated tonic effect. Therefore, the extract is a suitable ingredient for toothpastes. According to the anthroposophical understanding of man and nature, the preparation of Chestnut Bark Extract has a positive supportive effect on the dental area.

When burning plant material, plant ash rich in minerals is obtained. The highly diluted extract made from it supports the matter and energy balance of the teeth.

The yellowish-white Guar Gum, which is derived from the seeds of the guar plant contains long-chain sugars. In aqueous solutions it is used as an emulsifier or as a thickening agent.

Alcohol is another term for ethanol or ethyl alcohol. In manufacturing plant extracts contained in Weleda's products, mixtures of alcohol and water are used as extraction agents in some formulations. The consistency and stability of natural cosmetic products are improved by alcohol.

Jojoba Seed Oil is an oily liquid wax that is very similar to the protective layer of the human skin. At the same time, it supports the barrier function of the skin. Thereby it protects the skin against water loss without leaving it greasy. It is very skin friendly, easily absorbed and is therefore a suitable care product for all skin types, especially for dry skin. It is also very suitable as a foundation oil, which does not go off.
